Elisa Macchi will be an Assistant Professor in Economics at Brown University starting January 2023. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Zurich in 2021 and a master's degree from the University of Bologna in 2015. Her research is at the intersection of development and behavioral economics. She is interested in the role of social preferences and relational contracts in contexts characterized by large information frictions, like developing countries. Other research interests include the determinants of health behavior, especially related to nutrition and exercise, and mental health. Her current field work is based in Uganda.
Elisa’s work has been supported by the Swiss Re Fund for Development Economics and the Swiss National Science Foundation, among others. She was a postdoctoral associate at MIT Economics department in 2021/2022 and part of the RESTUD tour North America in 2021.
