Professor Şebnem Kalemli-Özcan Interviewed by Financial Times on the Economic Impact of Trump’s Expected Policies

Professor Şebnem Kalemli-Özcan was interviewed by Financial Times for an article released this week titled “Economists Warn Trump's Policies Will Trigger Inflation.” The interviews were largely informed by her joint paper, whose authors include one of our own graduate students Can Soylu and economists Julian di Giovanni, Alvaro Silva, and Muhammed Yildirim. The paper, titled “The Price of Fragmentation,” was presented in mid-October at the CEPR-Kiel Geopolitical Fragmentation conference and shows the inflationary impact of Trump’s tariffs combined with unemployment. “These policies are pushed as policies that will create more jobs for Americans, but the effect is going to be the exact opposite,” said Kalemli-Özcan.
