Almudena Sevilla, PhD Class of 2004, Honored in UK New Year Honours List

Almudena Sevilla, PhD Class of 2004, a distinguished economist at the London School of Economics and Political Science, has been recognized in the United Kingdom's 2025 New Year Honours List. This honor, awarded by King Charles III, acknowledges Professor Sevilla's contributions to the field of economics and her dedicated efforts to advance the role of women in economics.  Professor Sevilla has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), one of the highest honors in the UK. She will officially receive the award at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Professor Sevilla is internationally recognized for her impactful research on the economic role of women. Her work shows how policies like pay transparency and anti-harassment laws can improve talent utilization, boost productivity, and support sustainable economic growth. Her research has been widely published in leading international journals and supported by highly competitive funding, including a European Research Council Consolidator Grant of over £1.5 million. Early in her career, she received the Marie J. Langlois Prize for her doctoral research, which laid the foundation for her transformative work in gender economics.

She founded and chairs the UK Women in Economics Network (UK WEN), fostering mentorship and networking opportunities for women across academia, government, and industry. Additionally, she leads the LSE Women in Social and Public Policy Research Hub (WISPPRH) and is a steering committee member of the Economics of Diversity, Gender, and Equality (EDGE) Network.
