Professor Jon Roth Awarded Prestigious 2025 Sloan Research Fellowship

We are thrilled to announce that Jon Roth, Assistant Professor of Economics, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Sloan Research Fellowship by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. This honor recognizes his significant contributions to econometrics and his potential to become a leader in the field. Jon is one of three assistant professors at Brown to receive the award and one of 126 scholars selected for the fellowship this year.

Roth’s research focuses on developing statistical tools to evaluate economic policies and interventions, such as changes in minimum wage laws or Medicaid expansions. His work aims to enhance the credibility of social science research by providing methodologies that can be applied across various empirical settings. For example, his research has been used to analyze policies ranging from police officer training programs in Chicago to tax reforms in France. The Sloan Research Fellowship will provide him with $75,000 over two years to support his continued work in econometrics.

Jon earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 2020 and joined Brown’s Economics Department in 2021 after completing a one year postdoctoral fellowship at Microsoft.

Congratulations to Professor Roth on this remarkable achievement! We look forward to the continued impact of his research.
