Dev Patel has been awarded a grant from Emergent Ventures India to expand his work using machine learning and geophysics to forecast floods in Indian villages.

Dev will join Brown University in 2026 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society. He is currently a Prize Fellow in Economics, History, and Politics at Harvard’s Center for History and Economics and a Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT’s J-PAL. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard in 2024. Congratulations Dev!
