Following her remarks she was awarded the President's Medal by Brown President Christina Paxson. In a letter sent to his family in 2014, Yellen said that she had planned to major in philosophy until she became intrigued by economics courses she took with Brown faculty including Professor George Borts, who died in that year shortly after his retirement. She has been a guest of Brown's Economics Department on past occasions, including her delivery of the Bernard I. Fain lecture in the early 1990s.
